Just a quick update on this week’s Substack. First, welcome to my new subscribers! Some of you were recently added to my Substack after winning a copy of my novel in a Storygraph giveaway. I hope you find my content fun and informative. I promise not to clutter your inbox!
I have some upcoming appearances to share!
Book Journey Club, Tues Jan 14 Virtually
First, for alumni of the NorCal Writer’s Retreat, on Tuesday January 14 at 8 pm EST, I will be speaking as part of the Book Journey Club! I will be discussing what it’s like to write science fiction, how I conceptualized what became a trilogy, and what it’s like to work with a small press. We’ll also be talking book awards!
If you are looking for an amazing writing retreat experience, I can’t recommend this one enough.
Arisia, Cambridge, MA Jan 17 - 20
If you are in the Boston area, come find me at Arisia from January 17 - 20. This is my second time attending Arisia as a panelist. Arisia is a super fun sci-fi/fantasy fan gathering. In addition to author and writing panels, they have gaming, role-playing, masquerading and a great dealers room.
I will be on the following panels:
If you knew me in college, you will not be surprised that I’m SO EXCITED to be on the Rocky Horror at 50 panel!!! Will I dress up? You’ll have to show up to find out.
When not on panels, you can find me signing books in the dealer’s room with the amazing other writer members of Broad Universe. All of the authors whose books are available at our table will be available to sign autographs, so please come by!
StokerCon, Stanford, CT June 12 - 15
I’m VERY excited that StokerCon is closer to home this year, in Stanford, CT. I am waiting to see what panels I might be on, but will definitely be there with my amazing publisher, Winding Road Stories, and several of our other authors. My first sci-horror short story will be available in an upcoming anthology. I can’t wait!
Also, huge congrats to fellow WRDs author, Tim Waggoner on being a Guest of Honor at this year’s conference! I’m mush more of a Sci Fi author than horror author and I definitely feel like I got invited to hang out with the cool kids. I can’t wait!
The Write Women Book Fest, Bowie, MD July 19 & 20
I’m excited to be attending the Write Women Book Fest for the first time this summer in Bowie, Maryland. The festival is July 19 & 20th but tickets are on sale now and will sell out. There are tons of great authors and vendors on the list. It’s going to be a great event (and I get to hang out with my aunt and cousins in my birth state of MD!)
*******
That’s it for now. I have a bunch of other appearances in the hopper that I hope to announce soon, including on podcasts (many of which I’m excited to return to) and to other cons including possibly Ravencon in VA and Worldcon.
Please Write Reviews
And a reminder to pretty please review my books anywhere you share your favorite reads, including Amazon, Audible and Goodreads. Amazon especially promotes its own authors way ahead of other writers. The only way to get the algorithm to recommend your book is to have reviews!
If you have my book and would like a signed bookplate, please DM me and I will be happy to send you one as my thanks for supporting my writing dream.
Happy reading!
Sarena
Excited to join the book journey club tomorrow! See you there :)
